Our 2GO Advisory Group Helps Organizations with Governance Best Practices

Now it’s Time to Govern AI Agents!

It is vital now to ensure that AI agents are safe and successful. Left on their own, AI agents can make mistakes, lack security, and not meet compliance requirements.

The wise next step is to develop an AI Agent governance roadmap. The aim of a solid roadmap is to:

  • Discover, control, and govern AI agents across your organization to reduce any unwanted access and protect for any compliance risk with AI adoption.
  • Establish how to identify, govern, and manage AI agent identities enterprise-wide
    • Search for specific naming; inventory all AI agents across supported platforms, note who created them, the Saas they touch, the scopes they hold, and all actions they take.
    • Map authority to avoid any privilege creep
    • Eliminate orphaned identities; detect agents whose owner account is disabled, agents tied to disposed projects, and shadow agents created without security review.
  • Set strong accountability to solve any audit gaps as AI use grows.
    • Deploying AI and governing it are different. Most tax, audit & accounting firms are on deployment of AI but not yet setting up how it will be governed.
    • Auditors now need to know how to use AI and when to distrust it.
    • Risk assessment needs to be rethought. The risk assessment gap is a structural problem, not a technology maturity problem.
  • Address the key work by organizations to evaluate and manage secure AI agents.
    • Identify AI agents as non-human identities and classify them as managed by humans to ensure constant oversight.
    • Assign human owners to each agent as a manager and be sure to prevent unmanaged agents without a manager to avoid risks.
    • Expect and manage governance changes: control creation, changes, and retirement of any agents and prevent permission creep.
    • Develop insights by studying agent activity and discover any hidden risks.
    • Manage compliance through traceability and audit readiness.

Develop a Solid Roadmap

Take time to create a wholesome roadmap. The wise way is to develop a committee as a think tank group. Bring together board members, management, and the AI tool developer, as each will bring different angles and ideas that improve ideation on how best to craft a strong roadmap. It will help you to assign roles for board directors, managers, and employees in managing AI Agents.

As a great colleague of ours notes: “If you see a problem with an AI Agent, put it on a PIP!”

Governance of AI is expanding, and more changes and requirements are underway by governments across the globe. It is wise to stay up to date, as changes are happening often now.
